Throughout his childhood Michael Phelps suffered from ADHD. As a result he was frequently unable to focus and was an underachiever in many areas of life in his younger years (Drhallowell, 2015). However, as he got older, medication enabled him to focus and apply it to becoming a superior swimmer, winning numerous Olympic medals. Similarly to the athletic field, focus appears vitally important in order to succeed in business. For example, Neil Patel, successful serial entrepreneur and writer for Entrepreneur Magazine firmly believes that being able to focus as an entrepreneur is critical to any business success (Entrepreneur Magazine, 2015). Thomas Edison, the great inventor and extremely successful business man stated that focus is the first essential skill one should master if he or she wishes to succeed in business (Dyer & Martin, 2012). If focus is so important to succeed in business (i.e. have a high performing venture) than why is it that it enjoys so little attention within the academic world? This book aims to explore the scientific gap concerning focus within this entrepreneurial context.
