Der vorliegende Band klärt erstmals umfassend den Entstehungsprozess von Pascendi, offenbart den Beitrag der verschiedenen geistigen Väter der Enzyklika, ihre Intentionen, Quellen und Feindbilder, und lässt nicht zuletzt den Anteil von Pius X. in neuer Weise hervortreten. Damit wird ein grundlegender Text der Kirchen- und Geistesgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts für die weitere Forschung kritisch erschlossen.
The Encyclical Pascendi dominici gregis (1907) is one of the most momentous papal documents. Through Pascendi Pius X imposed an antimodernist agenda on the Roman Catholic Church with theological, political and social implications, palpable until the Second Vatican Council and well beyond. For the first time the present volume offers an exhaustive reconstruction of the making of Pascendi, its inspirators and authors, their intentions, sources and concepts of enmity. The role of Pius X in the redaction process is also elucidated in a new way. Thus, a fundamental text of the religious and intellectual history of the 20th century is made critically accessible for further research.(Languages: Italian, Latin, French. Abstracts in English)
