Robin Barrow read Greats at Oxford University and obtained his PhD from the University of London. He was Reader in Philosophy of Education at the University of Leicester, before moving to Simon Fraser University in Canada as Professor of Philosophy of Education in 1982. From 1992-2002 he was Dean of Education. He is the author of twenty-four books and a hundred or so papers in the fields of classics, philosophy, and education. His works include the celebrated Giving Teaching Back to Teachers, The Philosophy of Schooling, and An Introduction to Philosophy of Education, which, recently in its 4th and completely revised edition, has now been continuously in print for more than thirty years. His most recent works include books on Plato's educational theory, Academic Ethics, and Moral Philosophy. He has been Vice-Chair of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain, President of the Philosophy of Education Society of Canada, and President of the North West Philosophy of Education Society of North America. He is listed in the Canadian Who's Who and in 1996 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
