The publication results from a symposium held in the context of Special Research Program 295 of the University of Mainz on processes of change in historical regions of tension in North-East Africa and West Asia. It contains a greeting, an introduction, nine papers, and summaries. In detail the articles deal with Miletus / Didyma, namely with Apollo Delphinius und Apollo Didymeus as two faces of a Milesian god and their relation to the colonization of Miletus in archaic times, evidence for cultural transfer from the archaic sanctuary of Apollo at Didyma and a recently found inscription from Didyma, with the Apollinic triad of Histria, with the statue of Apollo Termintheus from Myus and its secondary presentation at Miletus as evidence for the transfer of rituals or political annexation, with offerings to Apollo Didymeus and Apollo Milesius in Naukratis as well as with Cyprus, namely with the representation of a ram god on a throne from sanctuaries of Apollo in Cyprus, with Cypriot small figurines of Apollo and inter-cultural transfer of religion as well as with Apollo “the Greek-most of all gods“ on Cyprus on the basis of the bronze statue from Tamassos.
