Yen-Wei Chen received the B.E. degree from Kobe University, Kobe, Japan, in 1985 and the M.E. and D.E. degrees from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1987 and 1990, respectively. From 1991 to 1994, he was a research fellow with the Institute of Laser Technology, Osaka, Japan. From October 1994 to March 2004, he was an associate professor and a professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan. He is currently a professor with the College of Information Science and Engineering, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan. He was a visiting professor with Oxford University, Oxford, United Kingdom, in 2003 and with Pennsylvania State University, Pennsylvania, in 2010. He is also a visiting professor with the College of Computer Science and Technology, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, and the Zhejing Lab, Hangzhou, China. He is an Associate Editor for the ( ), and the . His research focuses on computer vision, medical image analysis, and machine learning. He has published more than 300 research papers in these fields. He received various awards, such as Best Paper Award of ICPR2012 and the Paper Award of the  journal.
