Field service today is about far more than dispatching technicians—it’s about delivering seamless, data-driven customer experiences. This book takes you inside Dynamics 365 Field Service and the Microsoft Power Platform, showing how to align people, processes, and technology for maximum impact.

It starts with an overview of the Microsoft ecosystem and configuring resources to manage work orders, scheduling efficiently, and handling products. With practical guidance, real-world examples, and a recurring customer scenario, you’ll see how to move from theory to practice with confidence. Furthermore, you’ll discover how the Field Service mobile app empowers technicians on the ground, how AI and Copilot transform scheduling and decision-making, and how IoT integration unlocks proactive and predictive service delivery. Toward the end, you will go through customization strategies, integration best practices, and real implementation stories from enterprises, sports facilities, and government agencies.

After reading the book, you will have the insight to turn Field Service into a true strategic advantage.

Mark Christie is a Microsoft MVP for Business Applications (Field Service), a Regional Lead Microsoft Certified Trainer, and a contributor to Microsoft's certification exams. His route into technology was an unusual one: He began in professional sports as a UEFA-licensed coach, working on the data side of the game before moving into Microsoft Dynamics in 2005. From technical support to consultancy to solution architecture—by way of the early Dynamics world of Great Plains and NAV—he found his home in Field Service, and has spent the years since then designing and delivering solutions around the world: multi-country enterprise rollouts, regulated government service delivery, and, fittingly, the sports venues where his two careers meet.

Along the way he has earned a reputation as Field Service's firefighter—the consultant brought in when a large implementation has stalled, gone sideways, or been left smoldering by a previous partner, and the one trusted to get it live. Those rescues inform almost every opinion in this book.

Based out of Scotland and Norway Mark travels the world speaking about Field Service and the Power Platform, and is an avid content creator, producing a constant stream of Field Service content for the community. He retains a particular fondness for the kind of real-world implementation where something is always about to break five minutes before it matters—because that, more often than not, is when his phone rings.
