This collection of 24 pieces written over four decades provides a rich and wide-ranging overview of many of Finnissy's musical concerns. In music sometimes of great simplicity and sometimes of extreme complexity, there is throughout a care and affection for the music, lives, and beliefs of others who are portrayed in many of these evocative pieces. This is humane music in which can be found warmth and tenderness and anger and despair, and which always leaves one
emotionally richer at the end.
