MARK COWLING is Principal Lecturer in Politics at the University of Teesside. He convenes the Political Studies Association Marxism Specialist Group and edits its annual journal Studies in Marxism. Previous books are, (edited with Lawrence Wilde, 1989), (1998) and (1998).

PAUL REYNOLDS is Senior Lecturer in Politics and Sociology at Edge Hill University College.
