Russia's extensive campaigns of political subversion represent a strategic front in its efforts to reorder European security. While there has been much analysis of the forms these subversive acts take - bribing officials, hack-and-leak operations, and spreading disinformation - there is less detailed analysis of how the Kremlin orchestrates the range of tools at its disposal. This book, by laying out the methodologies employed by the Kremlin at the operational level and the architecture for implementing them, tries to identify the dependencies of this effort and therefore the opportunities for countering what has become a major threat to NATO and European cohesion.

Über Autor(innen)

Oleksandr V. Danylyuk is an Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute and has been the Chief Advisor to the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, a Special Advisor to the Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, and Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His main field of practical and academic expertise is Russian multidimensional warfare, active measures, and subversive activities of Russian and Soviet special services. He has written numerous books, including ‘Interagency and International Cooperation in the Early Detection and Counteraction of Hybrid Threats and Anticipation and Countering of Hybrid Threats.

Dr Jack Watling is Senior Research Fellow for Applied Military Sciences at the Royal United Services Institute. He works closely with the British military on the development of concepts of operation, assessments of the future operating environment, and conducts operational analysis of contemporary conflicts. He is the author Statecraft: The New Rules of Power in a Divided World and The Arms of the Future: Technology and Close Combat in the Twenty First Century.
