Vitrimers are thermoset-like polymers having thermoplastic-like processing characteristics, and have been the focus of extensive research, development, and applications in both academia and industry. These materials, also known as covalent adaptable networks (CANs), reversible covalent bonds containing polymers (RCBPs), or reorganizable networks, exhibit a combination of the network-like structure of thermosets and the flexibility and processability of thermoplastics. They offer a good balance of varied mechanical properties and (re)processability, making them promising candidates for high-performance, recyclable materials.

This book covers the composition, rheology, processing fundamentals of extrusion and injection molding, radiation curing, properties, and potential applications of vitrimers. The relationship between trimer composition, rheology, processing, properties, and derived applications is also covered. Special emphasis is directed toward the application of vitrimer technology for the self-healing of polymers and their thermoplastic and thermoset recyclability, shape memory vitrimers, and composite-based vitrimers, as well as adhesive, polyolefin, epoxy, polyester and bio-based vitrimers.

Edited by two leading experts and with renowned contributors, this book provides a uniquely comprehensive coverage of this important emerging class of materials.
