Follow the extraordinary journey of an exiled genius and his groundbreaking world through the 20th-century. traces Moholy-Nagy’s path from the Budapest avant-garde to the Bauhaus in Weimar, and ultimately to founding the New Bauhaus in Chicago. Commissioned by the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design, this definitive anthology explores his radical interdisciplinary approach to art, technology, and pedagogy.
By integrating art with mass culture and social utility, he pioneered participatory practices still relevant today. The book explores the intersection of revolutionary politics and avant-garde art anddraws together essays on Moholy-Nagy’s relevance today to both the making and the teaching of art.The Hungarian-born painter László Moholy-Nagy was a leading figure in twentieth-century art for his experiments with light and time, which were widely disseminated through his work as an educator first in Europe and later in the United States. Moholy-Nagy discovered painting after being wounded in the First World War and from this point onwards experimented unceasingly with all kinds of artistic genres. He was especially interested in phenomena of light, which he studied in his photograms and films.
