Community Engagement in Planning Practice: Participatory Techniques and Methods for Inclusive Planning prepares planning students and professionals to design and facilitate effective, inclusive community engagement processes. This reference combines theoretical foundations with practical applications, integrating asset-based community development, IAP2-certified techniques, and Liberating Structures exercises. It addresses contemporary challenges such as digital engagement, trauma-informed planning, anti-racist facilitation, and climate justice, providing diverse case studies and step-by-step guides aligned with professional planning competencies.

The content is organized into four sections covering foundational concepts, methods and techniques, specialized approaches, and evaluation, which can align seamlessly with a 12-week course. Chapters address topics from stakeholder analysis and communication strategies to advisory groups, technology use, and continuous improvement. Each chapter features equity considerations, exercises, and professional practice applications, making it ideal for graduate-level urban planning courses and professional development.

This reference benefits graduate students in urban planning, mid-career practitioners preparing for AICP certification, public administration students, community development professionals, urban designers, and international planning educators. Its comprehensive, equity-focused approach equips readers with the skills and knowledge to navigate complex participatory environments and advance inclusive planning practice globally.
