The book provides a modelling-based approach to the sustainable energy transitions, that is, the emphasis on analytical frameworks to be used in the planning, optimization, and decision-making processes under the condition of uncertainty. It synthesis the mathematical, computational, and multi-criteria modelling techniques to evaluate the interrelationship between the energy supply, demand, infrastructure, and policy. The book previews the application of system dynamics, optimisation methods, scenario analysis and uncertainty modelling in the analysis of the efficiency, resilience and sustainability of energy systems. The framework will help to understand how complicated energy systems can be systematically analysed to support long-term strategies by combining data-based approaches with decision-support tools. These modelling frameworks provide a solid basis of evidence-based planning and designing the resilient, low-carbon energy directions in a heterogeneous socio-economic setting.
