The book proposes a forward-looking reflection on the core challenge of housing for the forthcoming decades, as a top priority for Europe. Insightful contributions from researchers in the field of urban planning, architecture, design, engineering are collected as outcomes of the International Conference on Challenges for the NEXT generation BUILT Environment (NEXTBUILT series). Contributions are organized around the following interlinked topics:

Process workflow and services, reflecting on innovation in the building sector in terms of business models, product-as-a-service and other novel approaches centred on sustainability and circularity.
Livability, comfort and health, reflecting on the nature of the built environment around comfort, accessibility, usability, user-centred design.
Materials without borders, reflecting on reuse and impacts of products and components, speculating on the concepts of material banks, building passports, and life cycle management.
Energy and behavior, reflecting on affordability, equity and resilience of housing, from awareness raising to energy efficiency measures.
