Sarkar, Anita
Anita Sarkar has 25+ years of industry experience at the intersection of emerging technologies and human behavior. She started her career as a telecommunications research engineer and project leader in big tech companies including Intel and Yahoo and was a part of the ITU-T working committee for VOIP protocol standards. Subsequently she led development of NLP based products and AI platforms at both startups and Fortune 500 financial institutions. Her work with conversational AI and personalization products has led her to explore AI capabilities and limitations in identifying human behavior, emotion and preferences. Her experience working in highly regulated industries has also led her to focus on governance processes and programmatic frameworks for safe and ethical AI. Anita advises organizations on AI/ML strategy, serves on Duke’s AI Masters in Engineering advisory board, and is an active angel investor in multiple AI based startups spanning medical imaging and consumer marketing. Previously she has served as an Entrepreneur in Residence for the University of North Carolina Charlotte’s accelerator and served as a mentor on UNESCO’s global CodetheCurve hackathon during Covid. Anita has spoken in multiple industry forums on AI, innovation and women in technology and leadership. Anita has a B.E. in Computer Sc from NIT Durgapur, India, an M.Tech. in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and an MBA from Duke University Fuqua School of Business. Driven by her experience and passion in the interdisciplinary field of human behavior and AI, Anita has completed a Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Science from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, with graduate level coursework in computational modeling of human behavior and cognitive neuroscience, with a focus on the application of NLP and computer vision in the detection and interventions for Alzheimer’s disease.
Greene, Richard J.
Richard J. Greene received his PhD in 1989 from the University of Alabama, with a dissertation on Expert Vision System for applied topological features in model-based computer vision. Dr Greene was a member of the MIT, Lincoln Laboratory, Information Systems Technology Group, where he was the lead engineer for Ground Station Design for Boeing 707 Surveillance Aircraft for USAF, project leader for Tactical Speech Processing and system architect for a real-time image analysis system using object-oriented databases. Prior to this, Dr Green was a technical leader and Principal Investigator at a number of research labs including the Argonne National Laboratory and General Research Corporation, Alabama. His projects included design and implementation of a tactical sensor fusion prototype system using AI techniques for situation assessment, image exploitation, and simulation scenario development, expert systems for intelligent materials processing, database query optimization using semantic information, logistics expert system prototype for NASA, natural language frontend for database access, neural networks for battle management, and application of artificial intelligence techniques for software engineering environments. Dr Greene has also been an adjunct faculty at various universities including the University of Alabama and the University of New Hampshire.
