This book provides a comprehensive introduction to forensic archaeology and anthropology. Drawing on an online course developed in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross, it explores the application of forensic archaeology and anthropology in crime scenes, mass disasters, and humanitarian contexts. Organized as a step-by-step guide, it takes readers from the field to the laboratory, covering decomposition, body recovery, excavation techniques, laboratory analysis, biomolecular methods, and ethical considerations. It includes contributions from leading experts in biomolecular analysis and personal perspectives provided by forensic practitioners working around the world. Key topics include the similarities and differences between archaeology and anthropology, taphonomic factors, skeletal analysis, and the global challenges of forensic practice. Readers will:

- Understand what happens to the body after death and burial

- Gain knowledge of key processes and techniques for locating and excavating human remains in forensic contexts.

- Gain knowledge of analytical methods for establishing the identity of the deceased and information about their life and death.

- Understand how forensic archaeology and anthropology contributes to medicolegal and humanitarian investigations

- Develop an awareness of the practice of forensic archaeology and anthropology through a range of learning resources, including activities, interviews, online 3D models, and case studies.
