The Syrian Peace Process: International Intervention and Failure examines the political and legal factors behind the failure of international efforts to negotiate peace in Syria, offering a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and limitations of mediation throughout the conflict.

Drawing on official documents, negotiation records, interviews, and academic and policy sources, this book explores the evolution of Syrian peace negotiations and the major diplomatic initiatives led by the United Nations and other international actors. It examines how domestic political dynamics, international rivalries, military developments, constitutional questions, and institutional constraints influenced the prospects for a negotiated settlement. Situating these negotiations within the broader development of the Syrian conflict, the book analyses the relationship between international law, mediation practices, constitutional transition, and peace process design. Combining legal scholarship with empirical research, it critically assesses the effectiveness of international mediation frameworks and their limitations in addressing complex civil wars.

This book will appeal to students and scholars of Middle Eastern politics, international law, international relations, conflict resolution, and peace and conflict studies, as well as policymakers and practitioners working in diplomacy, peacebuilding, and transitional governance.
