1. Why did you choose this topic?
I have scientific relations with sociologists in Ukraine and visited the country several times. Ethnic and national relations and conflicts are one of my main research areas. The Russian aggression shocked me. So, I was very interested to investigate the socio-historical origins and its present-day concomitants. I think my considerations can also contribute a little bit to the ways how this war can be stopped, Ukraine find a new economic take-off.
2. What new perspectives does your book offer?
This is the first book on Ukraine war which starts from a comprehensive theoretical framework. It employees Kant's theory of war and peace, theories and findings on ethnic-national conflicts and documents their validity by a broad array of historical, statistical and survey data. In this regard, its approach much more comprehensive than those in books of historians, political scientists and journalistic writers.
3. What makes your topic relevant for current research debates?
The book takes a strictly scientific approach, looking at problematic actions which have been taken by all participants. It shows the change of Putin from a relatively open-minded person toward an increasingly authoritarian leader who uses the war to strengthen his position within his country and to re-affirm Russia's supposed greatness. The book shows that the Western (NAT=) expansion toward East Europe was problematic, as were some political decisions within Ukraine.
