Using an Existential Lens to Explore the Impact of National Culture on Coaching

This book harnesses thinking from different coaching approaches and specifically addresses the need to be aware of, acknowledge and respond to different national cultural norms that can affect and impact on individuals and teams in their effectiveness.

Written by two authors who have both worked as individual and team coaches with clients from multiple countries of origin, this book looks at how the existential framework of a coach needs to absorb the national cultural lens as well as those from an individual’s personality or professional background. It highlights how traditional methods of coaching practice can, unhelpfully, assume nationally biased interpretations of behaviour, and uses the existential approach as a specific way to explain the need to recognize often unspoken norms that can get in the way of addressing the needs arising.

Aimed at professionals in the coaching field, offering practical checklists through which to be reminded of core principles, it is also relevant for anyone who wants to look for and understand how to overcome national behavioural differences that may not be immediately apparent.
