Jay, Martin
Martin Jay, Sidney Hellman Ehrman Professor of History Emeritus at UC Berkeley, is one of the leading scholars of modern European intellectual history and Frankfurt School critical theory. His groundbreaking The Dialectical Imagination (1973) remains a classic study of the Institute for Social Research, while later works like Downcast Eyes and Reason after Its Eclipse have illuminated visual culture, experience, and rationality in twentieth-century thought. A prolific author and influential teacher for over forty years, he continues to shape debates in critical theory and historiography.
Martin Jay is the author of, most recently, Cultural Semantics: Keywords of Our Time and The Dialectical Imagination: A History of the Frankfurt School and the Institute of Social Research 1923-1950
