Lightweight Radiant Heating and Cooling Systems: Thermal Power and Economic Analysis investigates the technology for installing heating and cooling without wet and dry screeds in a horizontal or vertical arrangement. It presents the determination of comfortable conditions for using lightweight radiant heating and cooling systems (LRH/CS) and demonstrates how to conduct an economic analysis of available floor heating systems using multi-criteria decision analysis.

Representing the first part of an ongoing study, which contains a body of general information about available traditional surface heating systems and systems based on LRH/CS, this book presents laboratory tests, thermal power calculations, and analysis of the comfort of use of a lightweight radiant heating system (LRHS) with and without heat-dissipating lamellas. It also contains calculations of thermal efficiency or maximum supply temperature based on specific materials’ parameters for different types of flooring cover, such as ceramic tile.

This book is intended for practicing engineers and researchers involved in the design and operation of energy-efficient and sustainable HVAC systems.

Jacek Karpiesiuk is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Environmental and Civil
Engineering and Architecture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Poland. He received his Ph.D. from the Bialystok University of Technology, Poland. Between 1990 and 1999, he was a teacher at the Building and Surveyor Technical School in Bialystok. In 1993, he obtained building qualifications as a construction manager and supervision inspector, and in 2001, a building expert qualification. From 2001, Dr. Eng. Karpiesiuk has been serving as a technical advisor in Eastern Europe, Bulgaria, Malta, and France to Elektra, a world manufacturer of electric floor heating and anti-icing systems. He is the creator of thermal insulation boards made for surface heating systems, such as Thermopanel, Waterpanel installed without screeds, and Thermopian, a pipe covering system. Dr. Eng. Karpiesiuk has participated in ten scientific conferences as an invited speaker. He is the author of 64 scientific and technical articles, including one original monograph.
