Roshan Kumar is an engineering leader with over 13 years of experience delivering enterprise software and leading engineering teams across some of the world's most demanding technology organizations. Over more than a decade at Amazon, he grew from a full-stack software engineer to an Engineering Manager, working across Last Mile Technologies and Selling Partner Financial Tech. Today, he is an Engineering Manager at Adobe, where he leads teams building large-scale marketing technology platforms.

Like many engineers early in his career, Roshan often felt that everyone around him was exceptionally brilliant and that he somehow didn't belong. Yet watching incredibly talented teams still miss deadlines made him question whether brilliance alone explained dependable software delivery.

That realization quietly shaped the rest of his career.

Over the years, every successful launch, every painful delivery, every difficult postmortem, every design review, and every organizational challenge became another opportunity to understand why some teams consistently kept their commitments while others didn't. Gradually, he discovered that the teams who consistently delivered weren't necessarily the most brilliant. They were the ones that executed with discipline, made thoughtful technical decisions, aligned around a shared purpose, managed risks deliberately, and continuously learned from every delivery.

Those experiences shaped one belief that runs throughout this book: in software delivery, dependability beats brilliance.

Rather than simply moving on after each project, Roshan carried its lessons into the next one. Over time, those experiences evolved into practical playbooks, decision frameworks, and ways of thinking that helped teams replace reactive firefighting with dependable execution.

The On-Time Playbook is the culmination of that journey. Roshan wrote it so others wouldn't have to spend more than a decade learning the lessons he wishes someone had taught him much earlier in his career.
