Laid down as the freighter Dinteldyk, the into s.s. Ryndam renamed vessel, was completed in 1951 as a passenger liner. After a year she was followed by sister ship s.s. Maasdam. The ships were revolutionary and were called “the economy twins”. Both ships have had a long and special career.

Über Autor(innen)

Bert Lamers was born and raised in Rotterdam. At a very early age, he developed a keen interest in ports and shipping. He was particularly fascinated by passenger ships with their imposing structures and impressive funnels. Bert was just 19 when he embarked on his first cruise. Since then, he has sailed with many companies on ships all around the world. At the age of 14, he began taking photos of ships. It marked the start of a substantial archive today. From 1977 to 2000, Bert was a regular contributor to the Dutch monthly maritime shipping magazine ‘De Blauwe Wimpel’ (The Blue Riband). Over the course of 20 years, he played a key role in organising and supervising maritime group travel. These group tours were conducted under the name of Poseidon Travel until 2007. This is Bert’s fourth book and his second in the Liners series.
