This volume is the expansion and continuation of Volume 1 - Cybercrime in Asia published in March 2025, since in Volume 1 the discussions were mainly focused on socialist states, namely Vietnam and PR China. These two countries in terms of policing, technological environment, more importantly cyber-governance were vastly different from so called countries are practicing democracy: For example, government decision making structure or process is different, not to mention the policing and governance can be differently addressing nations technological advancement or the population needs. The former as socialist state, it is a centralist in governance; the latter is decentralist and government 'the political party' is voted into the office by one man one vote, so in theory- the government in office should be addressing the voter needs, but this may not be the actual countries/nations needs.

In this new volume, we will be discussing and touching on these issues, how these nations blocs address and resolve those issues, especially on policing, technological environment, and cyber-governance etc....Are they ready to address the challenge of cybercrime?  The focus will be on select Southeast Asian countries practicing democracy.

Über Autor(innen)

Dr. Laurie Lau is currently Chairman of the Asia Pacific Association of Technology and Society (APATAS) and an active member of IEEE Hong Kong Section, as an Executive Committee Member of CAS/COM Joint Chapter. He is an entrepreneur and philanthropist in Hong Kong with a PhD from the University of Glamorgan, UK. Laurie has wide experience in research and has published on policing internet-related crime, including O2O fraud, impact of technology and society - particularly keen interest on governance and geopolitics in Asia Pacific region, the Internet of things, AI and robotics. Laurie is actively involved in mentoring students at Wu Yee Sun College, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as taking a leadership role as lead organiser and creator of various cybercrime-related themes and integrated digital healthcare and cybersecurity conferences around the globe.
