Edwards, Charlie
As a child, Charlie spent the holidays with her family in Montroc. Here, inspired by her mother—a disciplined road runner—Charlie began her mornings with runs along the area’s many balcony trails. Her favorite pastime was racing her brother on the steep descent from Péclerey. In 2013, Charlie moved to Chamonix, where she worked as a primary teacher for several years before swapping teaching for private tutoring. In addition to running, Charlie also loves writing. She has a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and a master’s in English Literature, and she is currently working on a novel. In 2023, Charlie started writing content for two guiding companies: Run the Alps and Happy Tracks. She has completed a number of ultra-marathons, including the Transgrancanaria (80km), the Lago D'Orta (100km), and the Grand Trail du Courmayeur (75km). This year, she hopes to complete the Tôt Dret (130km) in the Aosta Valley in Italy.

Mayer, Doug
Doug Mayer spent many years working as a producer for the Peabody Award–winning NPR show, Car Talk. On a trail run with one of his brothers many years ago, he fell in love with the Alps. He later founded Run the Alps to share his passion with others. A former contributing editor to Trail Runner, he has authored three books on trail running. His most recent book is The Race that Changed Running: The Inside Story of UTMB (Helvetiq, 2023). He is a regular contributor to Outside Online and other trail-running media outlets.

Doug has been trail running around the world for more than 30 years. He has raced UTMB Mont Blanc twice and completed three successful tours of Italy's epic 330-kilometer mountain run, Tor des Géants. He lives in Chamonix, France, with his trail-running Labradoodle, Izzy. His favorite run is the one right outside his door: Aiguillette des Posettes, high above Le Tour.

Run the Alps came into being one night in 2012 over pizza in the Swiss mountain village of Champéry. Initially conceived as a tour company, Run the Alps today endeavors to share and celebrate trail running in the Alps. Run the Alps offers guided and self-guided trail-running tours throughout the Alps and also creates and publishes a wide range of running content, including stories, films, and a comprehensive online race finder. The company has partnerships with major trail-running brands and top athletes. Based in Chamonix, France, the organization’s staff and guides are all avid trail runners. Run the Alps works to foster inclusivity and to challenge itself and its guests. The team believes in the power of camaraderie and works hard to have a net positive impact on the people they come into contact with, the environments in which they run, and the communities in which they operate.
