1. Why did you choose this topic?
We chose this topic because we realized a growing awareness among business leaders to design our economies and organizations in ways that no longer contribute to exceeding planetary boundaries or increasing social inequality. However, this is usually followed instantly by another question: how can this actually be done in practice, and where should organizations start?
Our book tries to answer this question by presenting best-practice examples that show how and where to begin.
2. What new perspectives does your book offer?
Our book offers a new perspective in two ways. First, it focuses on regenerative business design, going far beyond the principle of 'do no harm' and showing how companies can act as generous organizations that create value across multiple social and ecological dimensions. Second, it provides insights into innovative practices through the design traits of purpose, network, governance, ownership, and finance, and highlights the positive interactions between these elements.
3. What makes your topic relevant for current research debates?
Our topic is relevant to current research debates because it highlights both the potentials and the challenges involved in transforming corporate design toward a regenerative and distributive orientation. In this sense, it provides an important starting point for further research, but it is also relevant for policymakers, where additional support and enabling frameworks are still needed. At the same time, our book aims to encourage practitioners to rethink and transform their own business design.
4. Choose one person you would like to discuss your book with!
Antje von Dewitz and/or Maja Göpel and/or Kate Raworth.
5. Your book summary in one sentence:
Our book gives insights on how business transformation towards a more regenerative and distributive design can be unlocked by innovative practices.
