Notechnology at Interfaces presents an engaging view of how nanoscale materials and molecular interfaces are reshaping surface chemistry  and biophysics research and generating emerging technologies. Published in celebration of Professor Roger M. Leblanc’s, a true pioneer of the field,  85th birthday and six decades of scientific achievement, the volume reflects a career that helped connect surface chemistry with living systems and gave a birth to the bionanotechnology. Its opening chapter follows Leblanc’s path from organized molecular films to modern bionanotechnology, setting the stage for a collection shaped by former students, collaborators, and international researchers.

The chapters show how interfaces can become active platforms for diagnosis, imaging, molecular recognition, and therapeutic design. Langmuir films, peptide monolayers, membrane binding, and bioorthogonal chemistry appear alongside fluorescence nanoscopy, protein SAXS, atomic force microscopy, and nano-oscillator sensing. These approaches may reveal molecular events that remain hidden in conventional bulk measurements. Readers will find concrete examples involving DNA and chromatin labels, transmembrane proteins in the visual cycle, and label-free detection of small molecules or individual proteins.

Carbon nanomaterials form a major theme throughout the book and are a major theme in Roger Leblans research opus. Prof. Miodrag “Mickey” Micic is a Professor of Engineering Design Technology at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California, where he teaches courses in engineering technology, product development, and plastics manufacturing. His research interests span medical devices, life science instrumentation, MEMS, rapid prototyping, and colloid and surface chemistry. He serves as Vice President of RotaPrep Inc. and has held leadership roles at Gojira Fine Chemicals, MP Biomedicals, and Veeco Instruments (now Bruker Nano Surfaces). He was also a Project Scientist at UC Irvine’s BioMEMS Lab and a postdoctoral fellow at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Prof. Micic holds multiple advanced degrees in chemistry, physics, and engineering from institutions including the University of Miami (MS, PhD.), Washington State University (MTM), and the University of Belgrade (BS, MS, ScD.). He holds four U.S. patents currently in production, has authored over 75 publications with 3,330+ citations, and edited the Springer volume Sample Preparation Techniques for Soil, Plant and Animal Samples.

He is a licensed commercial pilot and certified flight instructor, and lives in Lake Elsinore, California, with his wife Rebeccca Micic and  daughter Allison Nadezda Micic. His hobbies include aviation, scuba diving, travel, and exotic animals
