Essentials in Modern HPLC Separations, Second Edition discusses the role of separation in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This new and updated edition systematically presents basic concepts as well as new developments in HPLC. Starting with a description of basic concepts, it provides important guidance for the practical utilization of various HPLC procedures, such as the selection of the HPLC type, proper choice of the chromatographic column, selection of mobile phase and selection of the method of detection, all of which are in correlation with the physico-chemical characteristics of the compounds separated.

Every chapter has been carefully reviewed, with several new sections added to bring the book completely up-to-date. Hence, it is a valuable reference for students and professors in chemistry.

Moldoveanu, Serban C.
Dr. Serban C. Moldoveanu held several teaching positions at the University of Bucharest, Romania, until 1983, when he immigrated to the United States. There, he continued teaching at the university level for several years before focusing primarily on industrial research. He served as Senior Principal Scientist at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired at the end of 2023. His research has centered on various aspects of chromatography, including method development for the analysis of natural products using GC/MS, HPLC, and LC/MS/MS. He has also investigated the pyrolysis of a variety of polymers and organic compounds. Dr. Moldoveanu has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 8 books with Elsevier, approximately 22 patents/patent applications, and several book chapters. He was honored with the Tobacco Science Research Conference Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and currently serves as an editor for three chemistry journals.

David, Victor
Victor David was a Professor and Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Bucharest, Romania. Recently retired, he remains Emeritus Professor at the same Department. His main field of research is separation science (theory and applications in various scientific domains). He is the author of more than 200 publications, including over 150 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and 25 books and chapters. He is member of editorial board of Biomedical Chromatography, Molecules, Journal of Essential Oil-Bearing Plants and Revue Roumaine de Chimie.
