This is a foundational book on axicon at single-mode optical fiber tip. This book highlights the development of micro and nano optical axicon elements at the single-mode optical fiber tips. It demonstrates the interesting optics experiments and applications in the frontier of photonics research across various domains. The experimental results presented in the book chapter wise provide strong evidence that the optical fiber axicon tip can work as an ideal optical platform capable to address interdisciplinary research problems with the help of its optics. The authors tried their best to correlate the importance of the axicon optics by introducing the present developments, both in theory and experiment, with the topics covered in different chapters.  Key Features

• Micro-Nano axicon elements at optical fiber tip using natural chemical process

• Optical fiber axicon and small volume beam shaping optics

• Axicons as interdisciplinary experimental tool for advanced Photonics research

• Optical imaging and super-resolution nanoscopy

• Demonstration of industry ready solutions for implementation of axicon optics across the relevant fields

• The book provides authentic information on optical fiber integrated micro-nano axicons optical probes

The book is intended for graduate students and researchers studying optics related research in physical science and engineering branches of electronics & communication, nanoscopy, bio-imaging, material science, optical instrumentations, nanophotonics and so on.

Samir Mondal, as a Chief scientist, is presently associated with CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO), Chandigarh, India. Dr. Mondal graduated with an M.Sc. in Physics and a Ph.D. in Fiber and Integrated Optics from the University of Calcutta, India. Since obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Mondal has more than 25 years of research experience in the domain of optics and photonics and has worked in the US and European research universities (University of California, Irvine, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, US and Tyndall National Research Institute, Cork, Ireland). He has participated in various international programs during his research career, few to name, as BRICS, DAAD (Indo-German), and CNRS (Indo-French). He has made pioneering contributions to micro-/nano-optical elements at optical fiber tips. Over the past 15 years, he and his research group has worked on optical fiber and instrumentation, optical antennas, optical imaging, optical nanoscopy, and photonic nano-jets involving optical fiber tip axicons. He serves as an associate editor to a couple of internationally reputed photonics journals in addition to reviewing manuscripts for reputed journals and keeps delivering invited talks at scientific forums.

Pooja Gupta received the B.Tech. and M.E. degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in biomedical optics with fiber axicon–based optical imaging from Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), CSIR-CSIO, India. She was awarded the SRF from ICMR, India and the RA fellowship from CSIR, India. Her research interests include fiber axicon fabrication, optical coherence tomography, biomedical imaging, optical instrumentation, and refractive index measurement. She is currently an R&D Engineer with Boston Scientific, Gurugram, India.  Kaushal Vairagi holds a B.E. degree in Electronics and Instrumentation from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, and an M.Tech. degree in Instrumentation from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from AcSIR, CSIR-CSIO, India, in the field of Fiber Optic Instrumentation. He has done extensive research on the fabrication of axicons, axicon optics theory, and their applications. He was awarded the prestigious Research Associate Fellowship from CSIR. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Lovely Professional University, India.  Jasleen Kaur has an M.Sc. degree in Physics and a Ph.D. in Physical Sciences from AcSIR, CSIR-CSIO, India. She was recommended for the prestigious INSPIRE Fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology, India. She specializes in the domain of optical whispering gallery mode. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at Punjab Agricultural University, India
