This book offers an insight into some of the central topics in the current panorama of metaphysics. Thorny issues, such as the ontological state of fictional entities, abstract objects, and possible and impossible worlds, are addressed through an open conversation with Amie Thomasson, one of the leading figures in the current scene and landscape of metaphysics. This collection of heterogeneous and critical essays on her work, and her replies to them, stem from the SIUCC (Seminario Interuniversitario de Ciencia Cognitiva/Inter-University 3-day Workshop on Philosophy and Cognitive Science). By means of this interaction between a group of top scholars and Amie Thomasson, the book introduces the philosophically curious to the way the "first philosophy" is carried out today. This volume is of great interest to academics, philosophy majors who are taking an upper-division metaphysics class, and members of the general public who are curious about the work of Amie Thomasson.

Mirco Sambrotta is a newly minted Ph.D. (Magna Cum Laude and international Accreditation) in analytic philosophy at the University of Granada with a deep interest in practical philosophy. The results of his dissertation have been presented in seven different papers, five of them already published in high quality peer-reviewed journals and publishing houses (International Journal of Philosophical Studies, Theoria, Organon F, Studia Semioticzne, Routlege, Metaphysica). Apart from the results of his dissertation, he had the opportunity of taking part in other publishing activities, in particular he edited two special issues: “Substantialism, Factualism, and Structuralism: A Philosophical Dispute” published by International Journal of Philosophical Studies in 2018 (Issue 26:5) and “Naturalism and Metaphysics” published by American Philosophical Quarterly (forthcoming).

He has recently started a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Analytic Philosophy of the Slovak Academyof Science in Bratislava as a member of the research group “VEGA No.2/0117/19: Logic, epistemology and metaphysics of fiction”. His academic training and research experience have provided him with a strong interdisciplinary background in different areas, especially metaphysics, philosophy of language and philosophy of science. Furthermore, He has gained important international experience through different visiting positions and several attendances to international conferences and meetings. He got his M.A. in Philosophical Sciences at the University of Milan under the supervision of Professors Paolo Valore and Giuliano Torrengo (with full marks), and his B.A. in Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Florence under the supervision of Professor Marino Rosso (with full marks).
