„Poems from around the world“ ist Portarskys erster Lyrikband, dessen Gedichte auf seinen zahlreichen Reisen entstanden sind. In „Poems around the world“ stehen nun die verschiedenen Orte im Mittelpunkt, deren Geist der in Sofia aufgewachsene Autor mit Hilfe der Worte poetisch und humorvoll beschreibt.

Für die Illustrationen seiner Gedichte konnte Portarsky mit dem in Tokio geborenen Jonathan Meese einen international gefragten Künstler gewinnen. Seine Bilder sind Ausdruck der Einzigartigkeit seiner künstlerischen Wahrnehmung.

Portarskys Gedichte erscheinen zu einem Zeitpunkt, als Reisen lange nicht möglich war. Sie stillen ein wenig die Wanderlust der Lesenden und laden zu einer Reflexion ein.

Über Autor(innen)

Meese, Jonathan
Jonathan Meese was born in 1970 in Tokyo, Japan and now lives in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany.

His work extends across paintings, drawings, prints sculptures, performances but also surrounds to writing, stage design and directing within the theater and opera field.

Major retrospective exhibitions were „Revolution“, 2003 at Kestnergesellschaft, in Hannover, „Mama Johnny“, 2006 at Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, „Jonathan Meese Sculpture“, 2010 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, „Jonathan Meese. Malermeese - Meesermaler“, 2013 at Museum der Moderne in Salzburg, 2018 „Meese's Odyssee at Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and „Dr. Zuhause : K.U.N.S.T. (Erzliebe)“ at Kunsthalle St. Annen, Günter Grass Haus and Overbeckgesellschaft, in Lübeck.

His work is part of several private and public collections as Sammlung Falckenberg, Hamburg; Centre Pompidou, Paris, France; Albertina, Vienna, Austria; Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, USA; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada; Louisiana-Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, Denmark; Musées de Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France, K20, Düsseldorf and several more.

From 1994 to 2000, he completed a Master’s degree in Business Administration at the Freie Universität Berlin and at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, worked for Burda Publishing House in Moscow and in soccer industry in Zurich before returning to Berlin in 2013.

A selection of his short stories is published by the Swiss publishing house “Diogenes”. He also appears in the German magazines Spiegel and Zitty. 

Veso Portarsky published his first book „Der größte Orgasmus auf dem Balkan“ in 2015. His second book „Der Wein, der nicht getrunken werden durfte“ was published in 2017. His last book „Prominenz“ came out in 2019.
