Description:
A book of practical advice and useful tips on understanding the complex legal jargon encountered in day-to-day life. This lively, accessible, and illustrated guide is divided into two sections. The first includes chapters on all the times you may find it necessary to understand the law, from cradle to grave. Whether having children, buying a car, or making a will you will find help on the subject here. The second half is an easy to use, key quick reference section including an extensive glossary of legal terms, where you can find help on legal issues, and resources for further information.
Competition:
You and the Law: A Guide to Dealing with Your Legal Problems by Susan Singleton. Published 10/1997 £7.99. Publisher: Kogan Page. Comments: Like ours this book gives simple advice on everyday legal issues but does not specifically deal with legal jargon. Also 5 years old so some of the issues will have changed.
Law Without a Lawyer by Fenton Bresler. Published 03/2000 £14.99. Publisher: Century. Comments: Covers many of the same topics as ours including a section on legal terminology. However, at double the price and with a fairly serious-looking cover it could put off someone who wants an easily understandable, friendly guide to law.
The Daily Telegraph Everyday Law: The Practical Guide to How the Law Affects You by Aviva Golden. Published 09/2000 £14.99. Publisher: Collins. Comments: Again deals with many of the same topics as ours; as with the previous book it is double the price and looks rather heavy which could put certain potential readers off.
