A comprehensive introduction to managing people and organisations in contemporary workplaces.

Human Resource Management is a CIPD textbook that offers a broad and applied exploration of the key principles and practices of human resource management for students preparing for careers in HR. Written by Stephen Taylor and Carol Woodhams, this fourth edition is designed for those studying HRM and people management, including learners undertaking the CIPD Associate Diploma in People Management and students at the early stages of their HR careers.

The textbook covers core areas such as international people management, the employment relationship, resourcing and workforce planning, employee engagement and reward management. It also explores organisation design and development, organisational performance and the impact of emerging technologies on HR practice. Updated throughout, this edition includes expanded discussion of artificial intelligence, leadership, wellbeing at work and equity, diversity and inclusion, supported by additional real-world examples that connect theory to practice.

This textbook includes:

- Clear learning outcomes to structure chapters and support progress tracking

- Reflective activities to consolidate understanding and encourage application

- Further reading suggestions to support deeper exploration of key topics

- Real-world examples that demonstrate HR concepts in practice

- Online resources including lecturer slides, a lecturer guide and annotated web links

Whether studying for a CIPD qualification or building a foundation for professional HR practice, Human Resource Management equips students with the knowledge and perspective needed to succeed as people professionals.
