In discussion with Ramsar’s Max Finlayson and Nick Davidson, and several members of the Society of Wetland Scientists, Springer is proposing the development of a new Encyclopedia of Wetlands, a comprehensive resource aimed at supporting the trans- and multidisciplinary research and practice which is inherent to this field. Aware both that wetlands research is on the rise and that researchers and students are often working or learning across several disciplines, we are proposing a readily accessible online and print reference which will be the first port of call on key concepts in wetlands science and management. This easy-to-follow reference will allow multidisciplinary teams and transdisciplinary individuals to look up terms, access further details, read overviews on key issues and navigate to key articles selected by experts.

Über Autor(innen)

Heather MacKay has much experience in the fields of environment, wetlands, water policy etc. She has been working in the field for over 20 years. She has a PhD in Physical Oceanography and has been involved as Chair of the Scientific and Technical Review Panel of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, Gland, Switzerland from 2005-2012. As of 2005 she is Director of FHB Consulting Services in Lynden, USA. Some of her recent projects include: • Technical guidance on integration of wetland conservation and management into river basin management, for the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. • International review of guidance for managing the impacts of mining and extractive industries on wetland ecosystems. • Assessment of the vulnerability of wetlands on international flyways to mining and extractive industries. • Feasibility study for an ecosystem services marketplace in Whatcom County, WA.
