The residential palace in Ludwigsburg is one of the most expansive and impressive Baroque palaces in Europe. The Duke of Württemberg, Eberhard Ludwig, had initially only planned it as a hunting palace in 1704. However, within three decades a diverse complex was erected, the exterior of which Eberhard Ludwig's successors left virtually unchanged. As a result, the outward appearance of the palace is that of a uniform Baroque residence today. Yet Dukes Carl Eugen and riedrich, the later King of Württemberg, had numerous rooms in the interior remodeled. Today the magnificent representation rooms and cabinets are furnished with both Baroque decorations and appointments in the Classicistic and Empire styles.
This guide through the rooms explains the individual building sections of the palace complex, their building history and the phases of use by the Württemberg Court. In addition, it also describes the sumptuous room appointments of all rooms accessible to the public. In addition to the apartment of Duke Carl Eugen, these also include building sections which contain the Baroque Gallery, the Fashion Museum and the Ceramics Museum.
