This volume takes stock of current research findings and future prospects in Historical Security Studies. It examines how security has been demanded, provided, challenged, and defended from the Middle Ages to the present. Drawing on a constructivist understanding of security, it explores how social science approaches yield new historical findings and how historical evidence can further advance social science research on security.
