Scientific and technological advancements are leading to developments and innovations in space exploration. Space travel requires the development of materials that can withstand unique and demanding requirements. Handbook of Space Materials: Structural Alloys and Advanced Manufacturing addresses the structural backbone of modern spacecraft and the manufacturing innovations that make them possible.

• Discusses high-performance alloy systems, including lightweight TiAl alloys, purified Ni-based superalloys, and precisely characterized NiTi shape memory alloys that enable complex deployable mechanisms.

• Explores advanced manufacturing and joining technologies, integrating arc welding, additive manufacturing for aeronautical structures, and laser precision engineering of space-grade materials.

• Surveys multiscale modeling strategies for 3D-printed continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites alongside robust defect identification protocols for multilayer materials.

• Examines composite structural materials, including polymer composites and 3D textile composites, which form the lightweight yet durable frameworks of next-generation spacecraft.

This definitive reference is aimed at advanced students, researchers, and engineers engaged in astronautical projects. Written by experts from across the disciplines of materials, mechanical, aerospace, and related fields of engineering, it provides readers with a broad understanding of the current and near future materials technologies that will propel space travel and missions forward.
