This dissertation investigates novel organic electro-optic polymer systems for operation in the short-wavelength near-infrared range below 1000 nm. Chromophores with donor–p–acceptor structures are designed, synthesized, and incorporated into different polymer architectures, including host–guest systems, self-synthesized copolymers, covalently bonded polymers, and crosslinked systems. The materials are characterized by UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry, thermal analysis, and Teng–Man measurements of the electro-optic coefficient r33. The work establishes structure–property relationships between chromophore loading, polymer matrix, optical absorption, thermal stability, and electro-optic activity. Selected materials are further evaluated in device-oriented demonstrations, including a thin-film Fabry–Pérot electro-optic modulator and terahertz generation experiments. The results provide a systematic framework for developing organic electro-optic polymers for short-wavelength photonic applications.
