Giuliano Bernini is full professor of General Linguistics and Linguistic Typology in the Department of Foreign languages, literatures and cultures of the University of Bergamo. He was Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bergamo from 2001 to 2008, and Vice-Chancellor for International Relations from 2009 to 2014. A past President of the Italian Association of Applied Linguistics (AItLA) in the years 2010-2015, he is President of the Società di Linguistica Italiana (SLI).
