LAURA DOAN is Professor of Cultural History and Sexuality Studies at the University of Manchester, UK, and Co-Director of the Centre for the Study of Sexuality and Culture. She is author of Fashioning Sapphism: The Origins of a Modern Lesbian Culture (2001) and editor of several collections on the history of sexuality and lesbian studies. JANE GARRITY is Associate Professor of English at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA. She is the author of Step-Daughters of England: British Women Modernists and the National Imaginary (2003).
