The reformulation of European history post the fall of the Berlin Wall connected post-fascist and post-socialist narratives to a Western capitalist success story. A third factor however remained absent, which could have likewise used a re-evaluation: the colonial past. Fatima El-Tayeb approaches the current conflicts around German identity through their historical contextualization, and the question of their gaps. She investigates the effects of these unbalanced processes of coming to terms with history by way of the production of three racialized groups - black people, the Roma and Muslims - as »Un-German«. Thus showing that a post-migrant Germany not only needs open visions of the future, but also new historical narratives.

Fatima El-Tayeb (Dr. phil.), geb. 1966, ist Professorin für Ethnicity, Race & Migration und Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies an der Yale University. Sie ist Mitbegründerin von BEST, Black European Studies.

Fatima El-Tayeb (Dr. phil.), geb. 1966, ist Professorin für Literatur und Ethnic Studies und Direktorin des Programms 'Critical Gender Studies' (CGS) an der University of California, San Diego. Sie ist Vorstandsmitglied der 'Critical Ethnic Studies Association' und war Ko-Kuratorin des Projekts 'The Black Atlantic' (2004, Berlin) und Ko-Organisatorin des Netzwerks 'Black European Studies' (2005, Mainz). Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Rassismus in Europa, Queer Theory, Populärkultur und Widerstand. Zu ihren Veröffentlichungen zählen 'European Others. Queering Ethnicity in Postnational Europe' (2011, 2015 auf Deutsch erschienen) und 'Schwarze Deutsche. Der Diskurs um 'Rasse' und nationale Identität 1890-1933' (2001).
