Shari R. Lipner is an Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology, Associate Attending Physician, and Director of the Nail Division at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She completed her undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Lipner completed her medical training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she received both M.D. and Ph.D degrees and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her residency training in Dermatology at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Lipner is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Women’s Dermatologic Society, Council for Nail Disorders, American Dermatologic Association, and is chair of multiple committees. She is also past President of The Dermatologic Society of Greater New York, President of the New York State Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, and Founding Editor in Chief of JAAD Reviews.

Dr. Lipner is board certified in dermatology and is one of the few experts in nail disorders in the world. She is also the Primary Investigator on clinical trials utilizing novel treatments for nail disorders. She is also an expert in telemedicine and has published widely on this topic.

Dr. Lipner is one of the leading researchers in dermatology. She has authored over 670 peer-reviewed publications, numerous books and book chapters, lectures nationally and internationally, and is frequently featured by the media including, CNN, NPR, Self, Allure, The Washington Post, and The New York Times for her expertise.

Peter Elsner is Professor Emeritus of Dermatology, Friedrich Schiller University, Jena University Hospital, Jena, Germany. His research interests include occupational dermatoses, contact dermatitis, dermatotoxicology, dermatopharmacology and non-invasive methods in dermatology. He participates in research nationally and internationally in dermatoepidemiology, as well as in clinical studies in contact and hand dermatitis.

Professor Elsner received his medical degree from Wuerzburg University, Germany. After completing his residency in dermatology and allergology at the Wuerzburg University Hospital, Germany, he received his lectureship (“Habilitation”) and worked as a research dermatologist at the Department of Dermatology, University of California San Francisco, under the leadership of Professor Howard Maibach, one of the founders of the ICDRG. Thereafter, he was appointed as senior physician at the Department of Dermatology, University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland under the leadership of Professor Günter Burg, before he was appointed Professor of Dermatology and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital Jena, Germany.

Professor Elsner has been a long-standing Board Member of the German Society of Dermatology (DDG) and of the European Dermato-Epidemiology Network (EDEN) and has been President of the International Society for Dermatology in the Tropics (ISDT).

Howard Maibach is a dermatologist with expertise in treating contact dermatitis (a rash caused by touching an irritating substance) and occupational dermatitis (a rash resulting from workplace exposure to an irritating substance). His specialties include allergic skin disorders and skin conditions caused by exposure to toxic substances. He also has an interest in dermatopharmacology, the study of medications for skin disorders.

Maibach earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed a residency as well as a fellowship in dermatology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Maibach has served on the editorial boards of more than 30 scientific journals. He is a member of 19 professional societies, including the American Academy of Dermatology, San Francisco Dermatological Society and International Commission on Occupational Health.
