VIRGINIA A. GREIMAN is Professor of MegaprojectManagement and Inter- national Development and Project Finance atBoston University. She is the former deputy counsel and riskmanager for the Big Dig (from 1996 to 2005), and served as a coremanager on the twelve-member project executive team responsible forthe daily operations of the project. She had an opportunity toparticipate firsthand in addressing the project's challenges andfulfilling its goals during its peak years of construction.
