This book presents a brief introduction to the mathematical optimization with special attention to swarm-intelligence and their applications, divisions, variants, and hybridizations. Basic concepts related to swarm intelligence are presented such as randomness, random walks and chaos theory, as a preface for many of the variants and enhancements for the various optimization methods. An individual chapter is dedicated for every optimization algorithm covering the biological-base, algorithms, variants, hybridizations and applications. The different optimizers are presented in a standard form so that reader can easily capture similarities and differences amongst them.

Aboul Ella Hassanien (Abo) is a Full Professor at Cairo University, Faculty of Computer and Information, IT Department. Professor Abo is the founder and chair of the Scientific Research Group in Egypt www.egyptscience.net/He has authored/co-authored over 500 research publications in peer-reviewed reputed journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. He is the author, editor and co-editor for more than 37 books in the area of rough computing, computational intelligence, Intelligent Social networks, Data mining, and E-commerce. He has served as the general chair, co-chair, program chair, program committee member of various international conferences and reviewer for various international journals. He has received the Best Young Researcher Award, 1990 from Scientific Academic Research, Cairo, Egypt and received the excellence younger researcher awards from Kuwait University for the academic year 2003/2004. He has gain the JSPS fellowship, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. He is won the excellence researcher award of Cairo University in 2013 and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Culture Organization (ISESCO) award for 2014. He has guest edited many special issues for international scientific journals. He has directed many funded research projects. Abo has been established the formal Egyptian Rough Sets Society (ERS) and chairing the Egyptian Rough Set IRSS Chapter His research interests include Computational intelligence, medical image analysis, network security, animal identification, multimedia data mining, social networks, intelligent environment and optimization.

Eid Emary is currently a lecturer at Information Technology Dept., Faculty of Computers and Information, Cairo University, Egypt. He has authored/co-authored over 15 research publications in peer-reviewed reputed journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. He has served as the technical program committee member of various international conferences and reviewer for various international journals. His research interests are in the areas of computer vision, mathematical optimization, pattern recognition, video and image processing, machine learning, data mining, and biometrics.
