Chapter 1: Residents of Hardcore User Island
A month had passed since Allen and his friends had fought the Daemon God’s tail mid-resurrection in the underwater Prostia Empire. Pelomas had also gotten Fiona to agree to marry him. It was early January.
During that grisly battle against the tail, Macris, the guardian of Prostia, had turned into Allen’s Fish S, giving him newfound power. The Summoner had also realized that one of his two reasons for visiting Prostia had come to an unfortunate end—he had been in pursuit of Beku, the crown prince of Albahal and the very man who had attacked his own father, Beast King Muza, to steal the Symbol of the Beast King before fleeing his home. Allen had not been able to capture Beku alive. He and a frantic Beast Princess Shia of Albahal had been searching for the Beast Crown Prince, but shortly after they had found him, he had been killed by the Strategist of the Demon Lord Army, Greater Demonic Deity Kyubel.
Pelomas, a merchant and Allen’s friend, had informed the rest of his party about what had happened. He and the Beast Crown Prince had apparently been held prisoner together within a Demon Lord Army facility. Beku had been kept as a sacrifice for the Daemon God’s tail. The tail, which had gained life once more in exchange for Beku’s death, had then been devoured by none other than the Demon Lord himself, who had emerged in front of the No-life Gamers. The very person who had terrorized humanity and the world for decades, reveling in the pandemonium he had created, had put on a grotesque show for the kids.
The Demon Lord, who had called himself Zeldias, was a crimson-haired demon, and he had claimed that by consuming the tail, he had become a Transcender. That had led Allen to believe that the Demon Lord was trying to enter Hell Mode. The entire series of events in Prostia, the problems that Beku had caused in Albahal—it might all have been one huge scheme concocted by the Demon Lord to create the catalysts that would allow him to enter Hell Mode.
However, with Shia having been given the Symbol of the Beast King and Krena, with Falnemes’s support, having become a Liberated, Allen was certain that the Gamers were one step closer to fighting the Demon Lord and chasing away the Demon Lord Army once and for all. It seemed Falnemes, the Goddess of Arbitration, had also given Krena a new quest: to find both the descendants of the Dragon God and the Judgment Gate, the path to the Heavenly Realm those descendants protect.
Allen wanted to briefly return to Hardcore User Island before he and his friends embarked on their new mission. The floating island was the party’s base and the headquarters of the Allen Army. He had to first help Pelomas, the mayor of the island, move in.
The second reason for Allen’s visit to Prostia had been to obtain a Tear of the Holy Fish Macris, which Pelomas had given Fiona as a gift while professing his love for her. The merchant and the Summoner had infiltrated the Prostia palace, which had led to Pelomas’s capture, but he had managed to escape with Beku and ultimately retrieve the Symbol of the Beast King for Shia. By receiving the Tear from Macris himself, the boy had proven to Fiona that he was a powerful man—the type that she idolized. And so, he had courageously asked for her hand in marriage, and she had accepted his proposal.
As the year drew to a close, Fiona headed to Hardcore User Island in mid-December, but there was one problem: Pelomas’s current abode was only fit for one. More precisely, the furniture and outfits that she had brought with her took up far too much space.
“I would’ve never expected the to live in such a tiny house!” she yelled when she initially arrived at Pelomas’s home.
Allen thought. Even before he had arrived in this world and was just a single, online-game-loving salaryman in his thirties named Kenichi, he had not once experienced the happiness of letting a woman control him. He could not quite understand that mindset. He had, however, seen the trope play out many times in various manga and anime series, so he assumed that it was a form of happiness that couples could choose if they wished.
And despite Fiona’s incessant complaints and thorny remarks, Pelomas was beaming proudly, happily willing to accept any request his queen made. Hence, when the merchant came to the Summoner asking for advice on an expansion, Allen had a reply prepared.
“Why don’t you just combine your house with the neighboring one?” he suggested. “You’ll double your space. Or you can just build another floor.”
On top of supporting the residents of Hardcore User Island as their mayor, Pelomas was the chairman of the Whaling Company in his home nation of Ratash. The man had personally negotiated trade with the Five Continent Alliance, the organization established solely to fight the Demon Lord Army, and had brought in a great deal of profit for his kingdom. In Prostia, had he not been around, the Symbol of the Beast King might never have been recovered. He had done a great deal.
Naturally, Allen had not voiced all of his reasons for immediately approving an expansion, and Pelomas looked at him, bewildered.
“Huh? You’d remodel my house for me?” he asked.
“Yeah,” Allen replied. “We can just ask the elves. They can harness the power of earth spirits, so I think we can have the renovations done within a day.”
“Really? Wait, my house is made of brick, but the pillars and frame are wood.”
“An exterior built with the power of spirits is sturdier than any normal house made of bricks and wood.”
“I had no idea...”
And so, Pelomas’s house was successfully renovated, doubling in width and tripling in height. Today was the day that Fiona would finally move in with her host of servants and helpers, as well as her numerous, hefty pieces of furniture. Allen told his party that there was no need for them to help with the move; today was a day off, and he encouraged them to do as they pleased.
As a result only Cecil stayed behind. Not to help with the move, but to scope out the situation, for her childhood friend had gotten engaged and was moving in with her soon-to-be husband. Fiona brought in her storage magic tools, carrying two or three of them at a time, and placed them in the entrance of her new residence, while the servants she had brought from home expertly unpacked it all. Her move was complete in a mere half day.
“I’m happy for you, Pelomas,” Allen said. He was sitting in the cafeteria and sipping some tea, a drink he often enjoyed after lunch. Cecil, who sat beside him, shot him a pointed glare.
“You act so high and mighty, but it’s not like you did anything,” she muttered. “You didn’t even lift a finger.”
“That’s not true,” Pelomas insisted. “It was Allen who asked the elves to renovate my house. Actually, I’m just glad he’s here for my move at all. He’s done more than enough.”
“Goodness... You’ve really become an upstanding, respectable man. I can hardly believe we’re the same age.”
Cecil looked at him, impressed, and Fiona, who sat beside her fiancé, smiled proudly. That only made Cecil jolt. She had not meant to stroke Fiona’s ego.
“Hee hee hee... Indeed,” Fiona boasted. “My husband is a splendid, reliable man, isn’t he?”
“Well, I...” Cecil said before she stopped herself. “Wait, you two aren’t even married yet! You should call him your fiancé.”
“Ah, but you’ve got nothing to refute the fact that he’s splendid.”
“W-Well...”
Cecil fell silent with obvious vexation. It was none other than her father, Count Granvelle, who had told Pelomas and Fiona to wait to get married. The king of the Kingdom of Ratash wished to host their marriage in the royal castle with many ministers and nobles in attendance. It was His Majesty’s way of honoring the merchant who had helped rescue the Prostia Empire and was well-known within the Five Continent Alliance.
“So? What now?” Allen asked.
“Huh? Since we’re finished moving, I thought I’d go around and greet the head of each town,” Pelomas replied. “You know, sort of get acquainted with them.”
“Hmm, then why don’t you show Fiona around the island first?”
“Whatever do you mean, Master Allen?” Fiona asked.
“You haven’t seen the entirety of this island yet, have you? I was thinking of Summoning a Bird B and having Pelomas show you around. Surely you should be familiar with the island he’ll be serving as mayor of.”
Fiona turned to her fiancé. “Are you all right with that?”
“Sure,” Pelomas replied. “We’ve still got time, and I have no reason to turn down Allen’s suggestion.”
The happy couple left their residence as Allen Summoned two Bird B’s. Fiona was astonished, and she gazed up at the Summon that was curled up in front of her. Meanwhile, Pelomas climbed atop the beast’s back and extended a hand to his lady. Fiona grabbed it, and when she was dragged up onto the back of the Summons, the two exchanged a glance and a smile.
Cecil, who watched the entire scene, grumbled, “Allen, you should take notes and offer a...
