The story that began when orphaned high school student Souma was summoned to another world now returns with a proud collection of short stories that reflect on the path of his journey. The bonus stories included in volumes one through nineteen of How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom have been re-edited, expanded, and arranged in chronological order, and this volume adds roughly fifty pages of brand-new side story material written exclusively for this book.

The protagonists of these new tales are Souma's children, Luka and Misha, who set out across the seas with Captain Little Musashibo! Who will they encounter on their adventure?

This is a must-read for fans! The transferred-to-another-world administrative fantasy series shines once again in a short story collection that only a realist hero could deliver.

Enriching the Country Arc

Aisha: Day of Departure

It happened in the vast wooded region in the south of the Elfrieden Kingdom, also known as the God-Protected Forest.

This forest, said to be protected by a god-beast, was also the domain of the dark elves. With great martial prowess, they took pride in their role as woodland protectors and saw themselves as a people who lived and died with the forest. They did not socialize with other races, and while they were technically part of the kingdom, that was only because they had determined that if the kingdom fell, the God-Protected Forest would be in danger.

Recently, however, the situation in the forest had begun to change. Ordinarily, entry into the God-Protected Forest was forbidden to all but dark elves, yet people of other races had started to trespass. The cause was the food crisis that arose after the appearance of the Demon Lord’s Domain. Other races in the area, struggling to find anything to eat, had begun entering the forest in search of its natural bounty.

But that bounty was not without limit. The dark elves understood that the food crisis made life difficult for these people, yet they, too, relied on the forest to survive. As a result, clashes had begun on the forest’s outskirts between dark elves guarding against intrusion and outsiders desperate to enter. If left alone, these incidents risked escalating into a larger conflict. Something had to be done.

Resolving to act, one young woman prepared to leave the forest.

? ? ?

“Goodbye, Father. I will return soon,” said a girl with light brown skin who looked to be eighteen or nineteen, a greatsword slung over her back.

This was Aisha Udgard, the only daughter of Wodan Udgard, chief of the dark elf village.

“I swear that I will emerge victorious in the martial arts tournament and stand before the king,” Aisha declared, thumping her chest with pride.

The throne had recently passed from one king to the next, and they had heard the new king was searching widely for talented people. As part of this, he would hold the Best in the Kingdom Martial Arts Tournament, where fighters could demonstrate their martial skill. If she won, she would attend an award ceremony held by the king himself. In other words, she could meet him face-to-face. With that opportunity, she could appeal to him directly about the forest’s plight.

That was Aisha’s plan.

“...Must you go?” Wodan asked, concern in his voice as he watched her prepare. “A direct appeal to the king may be seen as an affront. This young man, Souma, has only just taken the throne. There is no telling what judgment he may pass. There is no need for one so young as you to go, is there?” By “young,” he meant young for a dark elf.

Seeing her father’s worry, Aisha shook her head firmly. “Father, you know how capable I am in battle. I am the strongest in our village. I can win the tournament and meet the king. There, I will appeal to him directly about the forest.”

“Hmph! A human king will never listen to our requests,” a contemptuous voice cut in. Wodan’s younger brother, Robthor, Aisha’s uncle, had also come to see her off. Always a conservative, he had grown increasingly mistrustful of other races after accompanying warriors to every recent clash.

“Uncle, we must meet him and speak first,” Aisha said. “Fortunately, I have heard the new king is wise.”

“You are too optimistic,” Robthor retorted. “You may find he is cunning instead.”

“Even so, I must see for myself what kind of man he is.”

“Hmph! Do as you will.”

With that, Robthor stomped off. Wodan sighed at his brother’s behavior, then placed a hand on Aisha’s shoulder.

“Regardless of what happens, I ask only that you return safely. Whatever the outcome, I will not fault you. So long as you come home, that is enough.”

“Yes! Absolutely!” Aisha nodded, and Wodan nodded back.

“That said,” he continued, concern returning to his expression, “you have never left the forest before. That is what worries me.”

“What is there to fear? Even among the men of this village, none can match my strength... Well, when it comes to skill with the bow, I may still fall short of Sir Sur...but in sheer strength, none surpass me!”

“Not all dangers in the outside world come from foes,” Wodan cautioned, choosing his words carefully. “Aisha, you are an excellent warrior. However...you are something of a glutton.”

“A-Am I, really...?”

“If someone outside offers you delicious food, might you not follow them carelessly?”

“I-I will not forget my task!” Aisha insisted, but Wodan did not look convinced.

“And when your task is complete? What if the one offering you food is a man? If a man wins you over with food, will you want to stay with him and never return to the forest?”

His words had drifted into the territory of a father worrying about his daughter being led astray by strange men.

Aisha protested, “I will never take a man weaker than myself as my husband! And I will not be tamed with food!”

“Is that so...”

“It is! I swear I will not give in to the temptation of food!”

“O-Okay...”

, Wodan though.

“Have a little more faith in me!” Aisha insisted indignantly. “Now...I must be going!”

And so, Aisha departed from the God-Protected Forest.

Later, Wodan received a messenger kui (something like a carrier pigeon) from Aisha. In the letter, she wrote that she had won the tournament and made her appeal to the king as planned. The king had responded favorably, had not faulted her for speaking directly, and had even offered valuable insight into managing the forest.

All of that, however, made up only about two-tenths of the letter... Another two-tenths praised the new king’s magnificence, five-tenths described in great detail the delicious foods she had eaten while staying with His Majesty, and less than one-tenth reported anything resembling recent developments.

While relieved that his daughter had completed her task, Wodan realized his fears had indeed come to pass. He let out a long sigh.

“Hahh... Well, she seems cheerful. I suppose that is good enough,” he muttered, looking towards the capital.

? ? ?

Around that time, Aisha’s voice rang out cheerfully from the Parnam Castle cafeteria: “Your Majesty, seconds please!”

Tomoe’s People-Watching Diary

My name is Tomoe Inui.

I’m a ten-year-old mystic wolf. When the Demon Lord’s Domain appeared, I was chased out of my home in the north and came to the Elfrieden Kingdom as a refugee. My mom and little brother came with me too.

That was my story, but a little while ago, I was adopted by the old king and queen of this country.

They did it because I could talk to animals and monsters, and that caught the eye of the new king, Souma Kazuya. He told me it was a very important ability. They adopted me, but my real mom and my little brother Rou were allowed to live in the castle too, so I could always see them.

That means I have two moms now. Mom and the old queen both take good care of me, so I’m very happy.

Today, I would like to talk about the people in my life.

First, I’ll start with Big Sister Liscia.

She’s the old king and queen’s daughter, and she has an arranged marriage with Big Brother Souma. I’m also her little sister by adoption. She’s brave, strong, pretty, and cool, and she’s a great big sister.

“Souma, are you really going to import something like that?”

“Yes. I absolutely need it, and I can’t get it in this country.”

“Okay, I understand. But...what are you even going to use volcanic ash for?”

“Well, just you wait and see.”

She is always by his side, supporting him in his work as king. I admire her as a grown-up woman who is good at her job.

That’s what Liscia is like, but...

“Thanks for all your help, Liscia.”

“Wha...? It’s no big deal... I mean, you’re doing it for the country...”

...She still can’t come out and be honest about her feelings for Big Brother Souma.

“Why, Madam Tomoe. Have you also come to eat lunch?” Aisha called out to me in front of the Parnam Castle cafeteria.

Ms. Aisha Udgard is a dark elf, and she is always protecting Big Brother Souma. She is really strong. I’ve heard that even if a whole bunch of men ganged up on her, they still couldn’t beat Aisha. She’s pretty, tall, and “busty.” I admire her figure. Will I be like that someday?

That’s what Aisha is like, but...

“Hey, Aisha. Poncho is developing a new sauce for dishes made from flour, and there are some samples left over. Do you want to eat them?” Big Brother Souma poked his head out of the cafeteria and called to her.

“I’ll follow you for the rest of my life, Your Majesty!” Aisha ran right to him.

It’s so...
