Fluid Dynamics with the Lattice Boltzmann Method is an indispensable guide designed to lead readers from foundational concepts to expert-level understanding. The book offers a systematic approach to learning the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM), making it accessible for beginners while providing depth for advanced users. With a clear, structured progression, the authors demystify complex topics and empower readers to confidently apply LBM within the broader field of computational fluid dynamics. Covering both essential principles and sophisticated techniques, this resource is carefully crafted to support growth and mastery, regardless of prior experience or familiarity with the method.

In addition to its detailed explanations, the book consolidates various LBM models and incorporates the latest advancements, including compressible flows and combustion. Authored by leading experts, it addresses the challenge of fragmented literature by presenting a unified and coherent resource. The text emphasizes LBM's evolution from the lattice Gas Automaton and highlights its remarkable effectiveness and simplicity. Readers will find valuable insights into recent developments, equipping them to stay current in a rapidly evolving field and confidently tackle complex fluid dynamics problems using LBM.

Karlin, Ilya
Karlin's research is devoted to advanced and novel methods of computational physics. He has authored over 160 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. His expertise covers methods of model reduction (Method of Invariant Manifold) with applications to kinetic theory and Boltzmann equation, polymer dynamics and complex chemical kinetics. He is key developer of the lattice Boltzmann method for fluid dynamics and micro-flow of rarefied gas. Karlin is the inventor of the unconditionally stable Entropic Lattice Boltzmann Method (ELBM) and of the Karlin-Bösch-Chikatamarla (KBC) latticed Boltzmann model which opened door to high performance computation of turbulent flows. Significance of his research was recognized through two prestigious European Research Council Advanced Grant (2011 and 2018). He heads a highly active Computational Kinetics Group at ETH Zurich, the major contributor to multiscale fluid dynamics; four of his Ph D students have received prestigious ETH Medal for their thesis.
