Andrew Kaufman, PhD, is currently a Visiting Lecturer in theDepartment of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University ofVirginia. He holds a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures fromStanford University, and he has recognized success as both apublished scholar and an innovative, award-winning teacher ofRussian language, literature, and culture at some of thecountry's top universities. Dr. Kaufman has worked as aRussian language and literature expert for "Oprah'sBook Club," he has discussed Russian literature and cultureon the national television show Democracy Now!, and he hasbeen heard as a featured guest on Talk America Radio and on SilverRain Radio in Russia. A fluent speaker of Russian, Dr. Kaufman haslived extensively in Russia, where he studied at Moscow StateUniversity and also worked as an interpreter, translator, andmanagement consultant. Serafima Gettys, PhD, earned her doctorate degree inForeign Language Education from Gertzen State PedagogicalUniversity, Leningrad, USSR. She is currently a Coordinator of theForeign Language Program at Lewis University, where she alsoteaches Russian. Prior to coming to Lewis University, she taughtRussian at Stanford University. Gettys is also a member of a numberof professional language associations.
Nina Wieda is a doctoral student in Slavic Languages andLiteratures at Northwestern University in Chicago. She is committedto bringing Russian language and culture into the lives of herreaders and students, because, as the Latin proverb goes,"With each new language, you live a new life." Atrained linguist with an MA in Social Sciences, Nina also has abook of poetry published in Russian, and a number of scholarlyarticles on Chekhov and contemporary drama published inEnglish.
