Mucoadhesion defined asattachment of synthetic or natural materials to mucosal tissues hasbeen widely exploited in pharmaceutical forms. This multi-authorbook provides an up-to-date account of current research onmucoadhesive materials and drug delivery systems. The introductorysection describes the structure and physiology of various mucosalsurfaces (oral, nasal, ocular, gastrointestinal and vaginalmucosa). This is followed by chapters on the various methods usedto study mucoadhesion and to characterise mucoadhesive propertiesof various dosage forms. The final section will summariseinformation on traditional and novel types of mucoadhesivematerials, such as chitosan, thiomers, and liposome-basedformulations.
This book is unique as there iscurrently no modern book considering mucoadhesion - all otherexisting books on the topic are either narrowly focused or morethan 10 years old. Furthermore, each contributor offers specialistperspectives from a variety of global locations in both industrialand academic research centres.
