Lane, Frederic Chapin
Frederic C. Lane (1900-1984) was a noted maritime historian of medieval and Renaissance Venice. Among his many books are Venetian Ships and Shipbuilders of the Renaissance and Venice, A Maritime Republic.

Frederic C. Lane specialized in medieval history with an emphasis on the Venetian region. He was a professor at Johns Hopkins University and a former president of the American Historical Society.
